What is FUE Hair Transplant?

FUE hair transplantation is a hair follicle transplantation aesthetic operation performed under local anesthesia to permanently treat hair loss and baldness.

Hair loss can have many different causes and hair loss can be experienced as thinning, receding hairline, receding temples or complete baldness. Although hair transplantation continues to be a field of interest mostly for men, the number of women who benefit from hair transplantation against hair loss and male pattern balding is increasing day by day.

How is FUE Hair Transplantation Performed?

Hair follicles are collected from the nape of the head, channels are opened in the recipient area and hair follicles are transplanted into these channels. FUE hair transplantation is simply done in this way.

However, hair transplantation planning is created individually. Depending on the type of hair loss, the width of the area to be transplanted and the area of the head varies. This is the most important factor that determines the hair transplant planning.

FUE hair transplantation is performed with a hair transplantation plan created individually according to many parameters such as hair loss type and cause, age, hair type, skin type.

Depending on the number of grafts to be collected from the donor area and the number of channels to be opened in the recipient area, some details may vary in the application stages of FUE hair transplantation. For example, the general tendency is to collect grafts from the donor area first, but an approach such as opening the canals first may also be preferred in order to shorten the time the hair follicles spend outside.

In the FUE technique, the grafts collected from the donor area are grouped according to their thickness and number of roots before they are transplanted. This stage is the most important and sensitive stage of the FUE technique. In order not to kill the hair follicles, the time each graft stays outside is monitored. There are some sensitivities such as the first hair follicle to be transplanted first.

How Does the FUE Hair Transplant Process Work?

FUE hair transplant is a modern technique that involves extracting individual hair follicles from the donor area and implanting them into areas affected by hair loss. The procedure is planned according to the patient’s hair structure, hairline design and graft needs. It is usually performed under local anaesthesia and follows a carefully organised process to achieve a natural-looking result.

Step 1: Hairline Planning and Preparation

The process begins with a detailed evaluation of the patient’s hair loss pattern and expectations. During this stage, the new hairline is designed in a way that suits the facial features and creates a balanced appearance. Once the planning is completed, the treatment areas are prepared and local anaesthesia is applied for patient comfort.

Step 2: Extraction of Hair Follicles

In the second stage, healthy hair follicles are extracted one by one from the donor area, usually located at the back of the head. Special micro tools are used to collect the grafts carefully while protecting the surrounding tissue. The extracted follicles are then preserved under suitable conditions until the implantation stage begins.

Step 3: Opening the Recipient Sites

After the grafts are prepared, tiny recipient sites are created in the area where the hair will be transplanted. This is one of the most important steps of the procedure because the angle, direction and density of these sites directly affect the final appearance. Careful planning at this stage helps ensure a soft, natural and aesthetically pleasing hairline.

Step 4: Implantation of the Grafts

In the final stage, the extracted follicles are implanted into the prepared recipient sites one by one. Each graft is placed with attention to natural hair growth direction and overall density. This step is essential for creating a fuller look and achieving results that blend naturally with the patient’s existing hair.

After the FUE Procedure

Once the transplantation is completed, the scalp is cleaned and the patient is given aftercare instructions. Mild redness or small scabs may appear during the first days, which is a normal part of the healing process. With proper care and follow-up, the transplanted follicles begin their growth cycle and the results gradually become visible over time.

Am I a Suitable Candidate for FUE Hair Transplant?

If the hair and hair follicles in the donor area are weak, it may not be possible to get the lush hair you expect, even though you are a suitable candidate for FUE hair transplantation.

Since hair loss caused by stress and hormonal changes starts at a very early age, the age of hair transplantation is between 20 and 60, and the negative psychological effects of hair loss often increase the severity of hair loss. The shortest way out of this vicious circle is to apply to experts in this field and get the right information about hair transplantation without waiting to be completely bald.

FUE hair transplantation is the most successful technique in hair transplantation, suitable for men and women of all ages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before hair transplantation, the direction of hair follicle growth and the donor area are accurately determined. Hair follicles are extracted from the nape area with the help of very small micro motors with 0.6 mm-0.8 mm incision tip. The hair follicles are transplanted in the hair structure according to the direction of growth of the follicles. Thus, the transplantation process is completed in a very short time. The most important point during extraction and transplantation is not to damage any hair tissue through the opened channels.

After Fue hair transplantation, our patients are discharged if our specialists deem appropriate. Our specialists perform all the necessary examinations both during and after hair transplantation. Great sensitivity is shown especially on what the patient should pay attention to.

Fue hair transplantation method is generally effective on people with hair loss. In addition, people with sparse hair or those who experience constant hair loss can also benefit from this method.

FUE does not create a long linear scar because follicular units are extracted individually. However, very small round marks can remain in the donor area. When extraction is planned carefully and the donor area heals normally, these marks are usually difficult to notice, especially when the surrounding hair provides coverage.
The follicles removed during FUE do not grow back from the same extraction points because they have been transferred to the recipient area. For this reason, grafts should be distributed carefully throughout the donor region to maintain a balanced appearance.
The duration of an FUE procedure depends mainly on the number of grafts required, the size of the recipient area and the characteristics of the donor hair. Procedures involving a larger number of grafts generally take longer than smaller hairline or density treatments.
The transplanted hair may initially shed during the first few weeks. New growth then develops gradually over the following months. Many patients begin to notice a visible change after several months, while the appearance continues to mature for around 12 months or longer.
Yes. Temporary shedding of the visible transplanted hairs is a common part of the recovery process. The follicle remains beneath the scalp and can begin producing new hair after entering a resting phase.
Unshaven or partially shaven FUE may be possible for selected patients, particularly when a limited number of grafts is required. The decision depends on hair length, donor access, the size of the treatment area and how safely the follicles can be extracted.

Yes. FUE can be considered for women with suitable donor hair and a stable pattern of permanent hair loss. The cause of female hair thinning should first be evaluated because not every type of hair loss is suitable for transplantation.

FUE can be performed on Afro-textured hair, but curly or coily follicles may follow a curved path beneath the skin. This can make extraction more technically demanding, so the follicle structure and donor area should be evaluated individually before treatment.
Yes. FUE can be used to restore selected areas of a receding hairline when the donor area is suitable. Hairline shape, facial proportions, hair direction and the possibility of future hair loss should all be considered during planning.
There is no single graft number suitable for every patient. The number required depends on the size of the thinning area, donor density, hair thickness, hair loss pattern and the level of coverage that can realistically be achieved.
A second FUE procedure may be considered when additional density is desired or when natural hair loss progresses into other areas. The remaining donor capacity should be assessed carefully before planning another session.
FUE can provide a natural-looking result when the hairline, graft distribution, direction and density are planned according to the patient’s existing hair characteristics. Single-hair grafts are particularly important when creating a soft and natural frontal hairline.
FUE is often preferred by patients who like shorter hairstyles because it does not leave a continuous linear donor scar. Very small extraction marks can still remain, so how short the hair can be worn without revealing them depends on the individual healing pattern and donor management.
No. FUE moves selected follicles from the donor area to areas affected by hair loss, but it does not stop the natural hair surrounding the transplanted follicles from thinning in the future. Long-term planning is therefore important when deciding where and how many grafts should be used.
Yes, FUE can be used to improve coverage in the crown when the donor area can provide enough suitable grafts. Because the crown can require a significant number of follicles, the frontal area, donor supply and likely future hair loss should also be considered when planning treatment.
